The traditional wooden spoon is not the ideal instrument to use for stirring dough mixtures. The excess width of the bowl of the spoon and its narrow handle combine to make it difficult to grip firmly when stirring vigorously.
The ergonomic design features of the RE-Ideal Mixing Stick make it better suited to the job.
Instructions for making your own:
A chemically bland straight-grained hardwood such as beech should be used. Prepare a piece to length 330 mm, width 38 mm, and thickness 6 mm.
Taper both ends of the stick down to a thickness of 3 mm, each taper being about 100 mm long. Remove equal amounts from both sides.
Work a curve on the end faces of the stick to fit the smallest radius of the bowl.
Round off all edges of the stick to make it comfortable to hold.
If after trying the stick you find it too wide to grip comfortably, reduce its width as required.
